Who Laurie is for

For people whose money doesn't fit in one box.

A day rate here, a side project there, a bit of crypto, a flat you let out. Laurie was built by someone juggling all of that, for everyone else who is too.

Sole traders and freelancers

Consultants, trades, creatives. Income comes in from different places, and the tax bill always feels like a surprise.

"What do I owe, and is it put aside?"

Side hustlers with more than one income

A job plus a business, or a business plus crypto. Laurie keeps each one separate, so a transfer from an exchange isn't mistaken for earnings.

"Is this money income, or just mine coming back?"

Landlords

Rent, repairs and mortgage costs, kept with the receipts that back them up, ready for quarterly updates from 2027 or 2028.

"Which of these costs can I actually claim?"

Making Tax Digital

The tax return is becoming four updates a year.

HMRC is moving sole traders and landlords to digital records and quarterly updates. It's based on your income before expenses, from self-employment and property together.

6 April 2026Over £50,000 · about 864,000 people
6 April 2027Over £30,000 · about 1,077,000 more
6 April 2028Over £20,000 · about 975,000 more

Add them together. A rough figure is fine.

You start on 6 April 2027£36,000 is over the threshold for that date. Getting your records in shape now makes the switch painless.

HMRC decides using the income on an earlier tax return, so check your date on GOV.UK. Laurie helps you get ready; it does not file with HMRC for you yet.

How it works

Talk. Laurie sorts it. You decide.

  1. 1

    Bring your statements

Drop in bank statements or exports from your exchange. Laurie keeps the originals untouched, line by line.

  2. 2

    Laurie sorts and asks

It suggests what each payment is and shows why. When it isn't sure, it asks you instead of guessing.

  3. 3

    You approve, it remembers

Nothing goes into your books until you say yes. Your budget, tax estimate and return figures update from there.

Bring your accountant

Your accountant sees the questions, not the mess.

Invite your accountant into your business records. They get the items that need a decision, with the bank line and the evidence next to each one. Your personal budget stays private.

  • Every decision records who, when and why
  • Clean export when it's time to file
  • Remove their access whenever you like
Client payment · Chase£10,000.00Approved Matched to invoice INV-014 · 4 Apr 2025
Exchange withdrawal · Kraken£18,000.00Question Looks like selling your own crypto, not earnings. Needs your trade history.
Bank transfer · "Rent"£2,500.00Question Rent or a loan? Laurie has asked you for the agreement.
Built to be trusted

Calm about money, careful with it.

Your say-so first

Laurie suggests; you approve. Every change is recorded and can be traced back.

UK tax years, done right

6 April to 5 April, with exact pennies. No rounding your figures to make things balance.

Personal stays personal

Your home budget is visible only to you, never to your accountant.

Straight about limits

Estimates show their working and what's still unknown. When something needs a professional, Laurie says so.
